Hubris - Nemesis?

«Remember Man, thou art but dust!»
How can we parry this hard thrust?
Proud, we thought ourselves superior
Conceit lives on in every era!

But no one can survive forever
Remember - not all make old leather
And hubris, as the Greek Gods knew
Made fools of humans – me and you...

Illusions still our safety net
Invincible we think – and yet
As we have seen, the bubble's burst
A new Pandora's box – or worse...

The message permeates our skin
All can be vectors* – this is grim
Our lives on others may depend
Self-distancing more than a trend ...

To pull together we are trying
The God of Selfishness lies dying
But when this time of trial is past
Will we think differently at last?
