The Hidden Threat

Note for the diary: Leap Year Day
We travel hopefully and pray
That a cough or sniffle on the bus
Will not lead to the end of us!

Dire news of virus and bacteria
Now in New Zealand and Nigeria!
Events and travel plans curtailed
Italian tourism – derailed...

Schools close their doors – so what's to do?
Social happenings are shot through
Flights from Hong Kong put on hold
Tickets for football games - unsold.

Worldwide finance takes a hit
Quarantine slows the pace – a bit
But the pesky bug ignores all borders
A sudden strike and it's – last orders!

Politicians haven't got a clue
A threat that can't be seen – is new
Meanwhile, with stealth Corona travels
And unsuspecting lives unravels ...

Also in the News

News bulletins teach us many things
Oddities and economic swings
It's “turn off mobile phones” they say
And “Stop female mutilation!” day!

No, I'm not joking – check it out
This poet knows what she's about
These items “also in the news”
Give rise to many different views.

The Smart phone's anchored in our lives
In touch  24/7,  Guys!
But is this trend a healthy one?
At times I wish phones were struck dumb!

And why should young girls far away
Suffer this indignity today?
The Greek bank crisis leaves me cold
We humans have been oversold!

My Friend Eki

A rare day – there's no guided tour
Time to go out and explore
The latest fashions in the shops
And get myself some summer tops.

In blazing sun with friend in tow
Avoiding endless tourist flow
We venture down this quaint back street
Where style and flair shake hands and meet.

In Rue de Flandre - Vintage Phase II
A boutique of the almost new
Has hand-picked items on display
Which draw in clients every day!

The owner is a friend of mine
A fashionista quite sublime
Whose charm and sunny smile ensure
That passers-by come through the door!
