A Dilemma - in the Making ...

World politics – a checkerboard

With hidden moves oft untoward;

Elections just past or to come

Keep smart pundits on the run.

A Greek philosopher* once said

Be careful whom you choose as head

Think awhile, don’t lose your nerve

You get the leaders you deserve!

In the highest echelons of power

Corruption eats away truth’s flower;

Two candidates across the Pond

Delude us, each with magic wand…

There comes a time when memory loss

Can disqualify a boss

Yet with a trump card in the mix

This will prove no easy fix!

The Cup Runneth Over

We’re all shook up in many ways

And no, I don’t mean a dance craze

Another earthquake* – many die:

Indonesian lives awry …

Our planet boldly shows its might

We never know when it will strike

Though humans think they know the score

Dame Nature holds us all in thrall…

This year’s COP** - in tatters

No firm decisions on what matters;

Extensive floods in Pakistan

This crisis is no  “also ran”.

Meanwhile in Doha, cool of day

The World Cup teams begin to play:

Surprising win by Ecuador***

Qatar retires with a nil score.

Vast stadium and flood-lit pitch

In sandy desert for the rich

Where politics has other goals

Troubling many sanguine souls …

Today's Kookaburra News!

Viewed from Down Under, news is skewed;

Here ScoMo’s* in election mood

 In trademark blue tie, tarmac greet

His Sydney-Canberra trip is sweet.

Though locals clamour for a date

The P.M. will not speculate;

In other news: persistent rains

Engulf Sydney, flooding plains…

Formula One now picks up pace

 As Melbourne gears up for “The Race”;

Matildas, not the Walzing kind,

Prove women’s sports not left behind!

Blown-up ammunition dump,

With other foreign news is clumped

Sri Lanka’s riots briefly viewed;

Lahore votes for a change of dude!**

Outside - the sunshine lights my day

Against blue skies, where breezes play

As a different sort of syncopation

Stirs and regulates this Nation!
