In Defence of Culture

The silence wraps me like a cloak
Self-isolation is no joke
So let us take a look on line
And see how others pass the time ...

For singers, actors, theatre crew
And ballet dancers, it is new
To have no reason to perform
This lack of audience – the norm!

When festivals, opera and art
Are absent, Culture loses heart;
Theme parks like Walibi stay closed
Horse rides off-piste, and so it goes ...

Deep rumblings of discontent ...
Vast subsidies must needs be spent
To keep these shows upon the road
The public purse screams «Overload!»

Even in War it lights a spark
And keeps the public in good heart
Without its impact, what are we?
Not even useful like the bee!
