A Seasonal Bride

Bold April in her green attire
Sees buds burst open into flower
Daisies stride forth on our lawns
And yellow jasmine paths adorns.

Beetles smart in shiny coats
Brave the cold, inspiring poets:
Shakespeare, Chaucer, Burns and Keats
Rising sap makes blossoms sweet...

We stay in lock-down - but outside
Nature, dressed up as a bride,
Scatters petals on the ground
This is a wedding in the round!

Catkins frame her noble face
Magnolia perfume lends her grace
Ushered in with warbler cries
Her canopy - deep velvet skies.

No rain falls on her parade
Solomon* put in the shade
One more week, then Lent is over
Soon – the sight of four-leaved clover!
