For Those who Grieve ...

At their last breath we were not there
We could not say how much we care
We could not stand still by their side
As they embarked on their last ride ...

The unwelcome Virus stood on guard
And cut all contact; it was hard
No loving touch, no gentle smile
No fond farewells in time of trial...

Bereft, we could not ease their pain
We knew we would not meet again ...
An overwhelming sense of grief
As funerals, perforce, are brief ...

So sudden, we were unprepared;
We recall the happy times we shared ...
This is the teaching that He gave
Our souls unite beyond the grave ...
