The sun puts on a proud display
Do I detect a bud or two?
The sap is rising, thrusting through
Those barren branches; soon new leaves
Will wear what Henry* called “Green Sleeves”
Isn't Nature wonderful – we thrive
As the growing season comes alive.
Think new potatoes and spring greens
Baby carrots, runner beans
Which burgeon in the springtime rain
Let's see the bluebell wood** again!
These changes happen one by one
Lawns by crocus overrun
Potted bulbs on windowsills
Burst forth and greet us – nature thrills!
