A Personal Bake-Off

The smell of baking is a joy!
An untidy kitchen can't destroy
The sensation of a fast heart rate
When you weigh ingredients for a cake.

Preparation is the key
Better keep close to the recipe
And weigh out butter, sugar, flour
Wrong proportions can prove dire!

I hope I have that magic touch
Though the gooey mix may not look much
I smooth it gently in the tin
And the oven's warm when it goes in.

The cleaning up may take a while
But as it cooks you have to smile
People so love cakes home made
I wonder – will mine make the grade?
