Into the Abyss?

Too much rain or lasting drought:

What is the climate all about?

Disasters, natural or man-made

Blight our lives in each decade.

 

Is there a pattern we can’t see

An unexplained reality?

We search the archives and conclude

That much is still misunderstood.

 

How Nature copes, we do not know

But it adapts to ebb and flow

The life force turns green every spring

Revitalising everything.

 

But Man ignores these vital signs

His greed for power undermines

The Planet’s plea to stay in step

What Nation can these flaws deflect?

 

For eons we have lived unscathed

But the way to Hell is paved

With promises to mend our ways;

Will we sink beneath the waves?
