By chance, kind neighbours stop and chat
Be-masked and distanced (COVID pact);
Real contact holds the topmost place
How hearts warm when face-to-face!
It’s cold and rainy, we’re be-scarved
So, of each other, we see half
Yet meet-ups mean we’re not alone;
We value life sans mobile phone!
It’s the young I pity most;
In student times one should just coast
And mix, with learning, friendships new ...
Team sports are a bonus too!
But screens now play the lion’s share
With isolation hard to bear
How lucky we were long ago;
Our childhoods tinged with pinkish glow...
Not always and not everyone
But leastwise all enjoyed the sun
Sharing good
times with their mates …
Unabraded by the Fates*.
A classic line from long ago
Which those who studied hard might know
Recalled to mind as memory stays …
But who still learns by heart these days?
