Defining Happiness

Happiness is fleeting – you must grasp it when it comes
Like Macbeth's three witches – there's a pricking in the thumbs
Some people have the shivers or a fast beat of the heart
The shock can be emotional or strike you like a dart.

But metaphors are just one way of expressing what is real
It's like you've lived on hors d'oeuvres and now you're served a meal!
It's a universal feeling yet it's very private too
You find someone appealing and you're drawn to them like glue.

It comes in many shapes and forms; is often unexpected
But realisation dawns - then bingo – you're connected!
Ephemeral or permanent - that we cannot know
But on one thing I am adamant – it imparts an inner glow!
