Taking a Back Seat

Does the autumn chill bring on the blues?
This lack of sunshine is bad news
The change of hour, one night's more sleep
Then timing chaos through the week!

Huge adjustments must be done
The price to pay for fading sun
As Commune trucks clear mounds of leaves
And Halloween rolls up its sleeves...

Witches, ghosts and goblin sprite
Flicker in the candlelight
It's 'trick or treat' time once again
A ritual small kids explain.

The year grows tired and old and slow
The morning nip makes faces glow;
We rummage for our gloves and scarves
And mulled wine tempts us into bars...

Mid-season brings no rush for sales
Conspicuous consumption pales
Spoiled and jaded, we «make do»
As darkness mutes our «derring do» ...

It's a time to pause, take stock and muse
And brace ourselves for more bad news
Which features daily on the Net
So time to switch off – and forget!
