May '68 - Fifty Years On!

«Mai Soixante-Huit» – Gosh! Fifty years
Those Paris riots – but who cares?
Though long ago, they left their mark
A break in discipline – a spark

That soon engendered a Crusade
Where rebel students barricade
The narrow streets round La Sorbonne
While Dan Cohen-Bendit eggs them on!

France henceforth was not the same
Revolution under a new name.
The Government assessed the mood
And a rise in salaries ensued.

Old disciplines were swept away
Now young people have a say
France caught the mood and rode the storm
Blue jeans not suits are now the norm!
