From Yorkshire it has crossed La Manche
Keen commentators shriek out loud
The Yellow Jersey wows the crowd.
Enthusiasts all line the route
To watch the cyclists past them shoot
What stamina, what tour de force!
But only one can win, of course.
This multi-leggèd cycle race
In rugged terrain picks up pace
In sprints and spurts and steep inclines
Stamina wins in sultry climes!
It began a hundred years ago
And still we watch; it goes to show
That cycling still has great appeal
Vive the magic of the Wheel!
